Rise of sustainable kitchen worktops

Dekker Zevenhuizen's new Obsidiana collection has already been expanded, and this time with three colours that are all equally subtle: Volcano Warm, Volcano Cool and Volcano Dim. They are warm, grey concrete shades, ranging from dark to light. They have a very fine pattern that makes them slightly uneven. The kitchen worktops combine easily with other materials and colours, making any kitchen durable without compromising on quality and style.

Eternal life

The new high-tech material Obisiana, introduced by Dekker Zevenhuizen in 2024, consists of 100% recycled glass with resin. From it, kitchen worktops are manufactured that can be reused endlessly. Earlier, the family business developed the award-winning Greengridz; an eco-friendly base material for various kitchen worktops.

THE KITCHEN WORKTOPS OF THE FUTURE

With the latest Cosmolite colour, Dekker Zevenhuizen once again shows that sustainability and style go well together. Even better: that waste can be beautiful. White Teti is a versatile must-have in the modern sustainable kitchen. In total, Cosmolite's colour palette now includes nine colours, ranging from light to dark, from calm to veined.

Minerals from industrial waste

Cosmolite® consists 100 per cent of minerals from industrial waste with resin, and has the same properties as traditional composite stone. From the base material, slabs are pressed one by one, creating beautiful, long-veined patterns. Those slabs are processed by Dekker into kitchen worktops - which can be recycled endlessly after use.

LIFE CYCLE ANALYSIS OF KITCHEN WORKTOPS

Dekker Zevenhuizen aims to use Environmental Product Declaration (EPDs) to give kitchen sellers and end-users more insight and transparency about the sustainable nature of its various kitchen worktops. An EPD is a document containing information on the environmental impact of a given building material at each stage of the product life cycle. It calculates how much a kitchen worktop emits from tree or quarry to end-of-life. An important part of this is what happens at end-of-life and the potential for reuse, recovery or recycling. Two of Dekker Zevenhuizen's materials are already fully circular: Obsidiana and Cosmolite.

Environmentally friendly core

In addition, the family business has developed the award-winning Greengridz: a core material for kitchen worktops that is not only more environmentally friendly than plywood and chipboard, but is also head and shoulders above them in terms of quality.

CSR report

Sustainability is a matter of course for Dekker Zevenhuizen. For example, it was the first company in the industry to present a verified CSR report. From development to purchasing to transport: all facets of the company's operations are described in it. The information is verified annually by FIRA Sustainability. Furthermore, Dekker Zevenhuizen produces 100% carbon neutral, and plants trees to offset other activities such as customer visits.
